The District is a boutique mixed-used retail center located adjacent to the newly completed Ka Makana Ali'i shopping mall in West Oahu. It comprises an area of 80,000 square feet of retail, specialty retail, office, a grocery use and restaurants, in addition to an existing gym. Designed in an elegantly casual, yet contemporary style, the project achieves its appearance through a variety of materials and its organizational central courtyard planning. Richly stained woods and brushed metals accent the facades of EIFS. The courtyard or "living room" is a Hawaiian garden narrative situated around a reflective pool water feature. Lush landscape hedges surround outdoor living room seating area with an alle' of queen palms overhead. A pair of restaurants with outdoor dining patio "rooms" are strategically placed in the common area garden, with wood and metal framing, greenscreen, wood ceilings, fans and fire features. Sun shading translucent fabric is placed overhead in the courtyard garden to provide protection from the sun and further create a "ceiling" for The District's fun and dynamic living room.
As part of the HTH Architects design team, my responsibilities included helping with the overall design, tenant and amenities space programing, material specification and drawing documentation. I am also serving as the project manager, integrating designs of engineer consultants, the client's spcific requirements, and collaborating with potential tenants.
